Employee Spotlight – Rachel Moore
Rachel has experienced something of a stilted start to her professional accounting career due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that has not stopped her. She joined the De Boer Baumann & Company team as an intern in January of 2020 and worked with the firm through March, when the stay-at-home-order went into effect. Rachel returned to the firm as an intern from June through August and then joined the team fulltime as a staff accountant. In this capacity, she works primarily on quarterly and annual payroll. This past tax season, she completed her first audit. Though she is not on any committees yet, she did assist with the implementation of both Advance Flow and Peerview.
A graduate of Grand Valley State University, Rachel’s undergraduate degree is in accounting. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Rachel chose to carry on her studies at GVSU; she graduated in May of 2021 with a Master of Science in Accounting. A focused professional, Rachel is currently in the process of studying for the CPA exam and plans on taking FAR in October.
When asked to describe her favorite part about working for De Boer Baumann & Company, Rachel chose to highlight the variety of work that the firm has to offer. “I’m able to work on many different projects throughout the year,” she explained. “I’ve only been a part of the team for a little over a year now, but I’ve been able to work on an audit, individual returns, business returns, payroll, and some other various projects!”
Rachel enjoys living in Michigan because the state offers many different things to do. “We have beautiful beaches, sand dunes, and hiking trails! There are rivers to kayak and wonderful cities to explore,” she said. “I love being outside and exploring new areas!” Rachel currently lives with her fiancé, to whom she got engaged in August of 2020; their wedding is scheduled for October of next year.
In her free time Rachel enjoys going for walks, completing puzzles, playing board games, and spending time with friends and family. She also recently got into a new hobby—aerial fitness! “I’ve recently joined an aerial fitness gym in Grand Rapids, and I love learning the routines and flips while balancing on a hoop suspended from the ceiling! I just started a couple of weeks ago and am not very good yet, but hopefully one day I can master this skill.”
